I am embarrassed to admit that, although I have been trying to be more Earth-aware lately, I still use paper towels (and I use them more than I should). I use them to wipe my sons face after meals, to clean off the table, to dry my hands... I use them a lot. Sigh. I think it would be better for the planet to use sponges, washcloths, and rags, but I need to graduate to that point. Sponges smell and gross me out because are they EVER really clean? Sisters Saving Hearts, Cheerios Helping Hearts

I am really touched by what Cheerios is doing for the benefit of finding a cure for heart disease. From now until 1/31/2010 (that is a LONG time!), Cheerios will donate $1 toward heart disease research and free cholesterol screenings for every code (found inside specially marked boxes of Cheerios) you enter on Cheerios Helping Hearts. They'll keep going until they hit $200,000. Let's help them hit it!!

My guy really loves Cheerios, so I am hoping we'll be able to help out a lot. I've been involved in the American Heart Association's Heart Walk for the past few years and let me tell you, it feels good to know that the efforts you make are going toward something you really believe in. Unfortunately, heart disease exists in my family and in the families of many people I care about, so this initiative is a pleasure to work for.

There's a giveaway for this as well which, surprisingly, is not the reason I am blogging about it (though I would love to wear this bracelet around town to show my support). Check out the details for yourself, and spread the word.

Also, think about someone in your life that could be considered a "Heart Hero." Someone who goes above and beyond to really make a difference in the initiative to make a dent in the world of heart disease research. There are a lot of people out there who are really good at "CVSing" (I think this is a new term... if not, consider it coined). I'm trying to get better at it because you can find some really great deals there! I love me some CVS, and I love to get some great deals with my Extra Care Card (ooooh boy if you don't have one, GET ONE!) but what I love to do MOST is to get FREE STUFF.

My favorite deals are the deals that give me the amount that I spend BACK in Extra Care Bucks (ECBs, from here on out). For example, let's say I buy a product for, say, $2.99. When my register transaction is complete, I will receive a printout on my receipt of $2.99 in ECBs to use on my next transaction.

So you are kind of paying out of pocket initially but then when you get your ECBs back, you can spend them on the next deal! Watch out though... the ECBs do expire. So be sure to use them... because even with an initial out-of-pocket expense, you still end up breaking even (or in some cases, making a profit).

Keep an eye out for my CVS ECB posts. In most cases, they will only include deals that return 100%+ in ECBs (because those are my favorite!!). I always try to take advantage of these deals no matter what the product is (which is why I randomly have ear rinse, bladder control pads, and Metamucil in my house, none of which I would normally have) because I am a sucker for a freebie, and you never know what houseguest or friend might need them!! If I try the deals myself, I will let you know at the bottom of each post by highlighting them in green. If I haven't yet tried the deals myself but have heard that they work, I will let you know at the bottom of each post by highlighting them in pink. No worries... I'll put my "key" at the bottom of each post!

This is a new blog for me. I think this makes a total of thirteen that I have, with only one other being public. I actually really enjoy blogging, and have come to really enjoy reading others' blogs as well.

I have come across many blogs and other such sites that have links to coupons, deals, freebies, etc. that have really helped me to save money. These sites have become my favorite ones lately because I think they are so ALTRUISTIC!! They are owned by people (mostly mothers) who are really trying to help others save money. Well, that is my hope. And if that is the case, I am genuinely grateful...

It's ALWAYS important to save money, no matter your situation...
